Lead Core
So I want to be able to deep troll and figured it was time to try the lead core I have heard so much about.
Really like targeting walleye and this time of year we find them in deeper waters now that a lot of the baitfish are scattered. Seems like a lot of the fish are scattered right now.
I get on the leadcore that a lure will be down 5' for every color +/-.
My main question is how the particular lure affects the depth. I have read that the lure doesn't have a lot of affect on depth when running lead core line. Anybody on here use it much? How does the lure affect the depth.
I rigged up 6 colors of it on a rig I bought the other day, and put about 15' of 20 lb braid as a leader. Ready to rock this weekend.

Take a look at the WalleyeCentral.com forum. Search leadcore. I'm sure there's hundreds of posts on it.
I personally use snap weights (same deal, look it up on walleye central). Shane got me on those last year. Still learning how to use them right. I easily got down to 40' with a 3 oz weight trolling small cranks at 3 mph.
Good luck. They're hungry right now.

Understood and I have done the weight thing myself. I just read a lot and seen on the shows of the guys using the leadcore so I figured I would give it a shot as well.
So if anybody can answer the question I would be much appreciative.

If you want to get serious there is a book out that Cabelas should have called the trollers bible (Precision Trolling) It covers how to fish in line Snap-On weights brands of and size of crank baits and how they performed under various speeds and depts.

Lure choice should not effect your lead much at all. The nice thing about the lead is that allows you to troll a contour a bit more precise as the line tracks very close to the boat path on tighter turns. With a bit of practice a guy can pull his two rods off the side and 1 short rod directly out the back with hardly any problems.Hope this helps a bit.

If your going to use leadcore, use the sufix 832 as it dives deeper and it's stronger than most. Go with the 12lb. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
