I have been fishing for Sac-a-let for some time now. I have always used shiners or soft plastics. My question is Why all the wild colors ? Isn't the goal to get your bait to look as close to real as possible ? I have NEVER seen a bug or insect look anything like some of the jigs I have seen here, Inquiring minds want to know lol
Well I have never seen something the color of the little Roadrunners my neighbor and I used to catch a really big number of crappie. Chart/Blue/Chart and it works every spring so well I would put it up agist most anything including minnows early spring. They likt the bright colors especially if it's stained water and to me if I can't see a jig 3' down it's stained and 3' or more, it's clear based on the lake I live on and how I choose colors.
This was Feb 3rd our first crappie fishing in water under 10' this spring. Limit here is 25 now that they changed it from 50 per person per day. We had 50 including what wouldn't fit on my board and is still in the ice chest. All on the same little Roadrunner.

Boy I would give anything to catch half that many Sac-a-let :-) so what you are saying Crappie just react to the brightness? You wouldn't by any chance post a picture of the jig those where caught on ? I am in Colorado so I pose no threat lol :-)
G Paw I suggest you check Skiptomylu's jig tying post's if you haven't. Skip has many pictures of his jigs and is a master at his craft. He will probably send you the picture you asked for, but it is already on a post in jig tying. He also is a super moderator and a super nice guy. Not a smart A--. He probably was laughing at an anxious newcomer, when he answered you on the other post you started. Welcome to c.c and good luck with your jigs. Be sure to post pictures for us to look at.
They definitely do get attracted to the bright colors. If the water is clear, you definitely want a more subtle and natural jig. In stained water you want the chartreuses, reds, oranges, greens, yellows, basically anything bright.
Okay this is the easiest pic I could grab fast and it has 5 of my favorites, not all, but 5 of them. The bottom one is Number 1 and what caught the fish in that picture and a whole lot more last Feb & March.

Like the old saying crappie fishermen always say, any color as long as it has Chartreuse, LOL!

That Chart/Blue/Chart is a Go-Getter on my home lake too in early Spring especially.
