That's the way mine is rigged, except I'm networked to one more unit. The NEMA starter kit is cheaper than buying the individual pieces to accomplish this setup.
There's always confusion on this simple setup, and the books confuse some folks even more. Hope this drawing helps someone.
This is called a "center power" backbone, because the power is in the center. You can power from the either end. Wire length has to be considered over a certain length (fairly long length).
