Mammoth cave is great, Bowling Green has Beech Bend park, water rides, roller coasters and lots of stuff for kids plus drag racing on the weekends. Around here on KY and Barkley Lake there is cabin rentals, house boat, jet ski rentals, golf (I don't play) and Patti's Restaurant, LBL has camping, hiking, bicycling and lots of nature. I can't really help much with any of that "civilized" stuff, as a country boy growing up on the farm I wasn't exposed to much of it.
I have done all that just trying to find new things.
In Northern Ky area, we have Creation Museum. Downtown area, Cincy, we have Reds, Cincy Zoo, Kings Island Amusement Park. Fishing is fair.

Loretta Bardstown area take a few whisky tours Makers Mark, Jim Bean or Heaven Hill. Louisville -- Slugger Museum, Frazier Museum, take in a River Bats game, Ali Museum Lexington--KY Horse Park South East KY--Mining Museum, Railroad rides white water rafting or find a cabin in the woods just kick back and relax.
