Is this a thermocline?
Was at Normandy last night and both depth finders kept showing this. One is a HB 581hd DI and the other is a Piranamax 150. At first the contrast was up, turned it down. Then surface clutter was off, turned it on. Still could never get rid of this. The thing is, it was not always at the top like this. It would be at the top to 8', then around 10' to 15', just everywhere.
It showed it on both sonar and down imaging.
Could this be the thermocline?
Second picture is the baitfish going around my fishing light. Pretty cool.

Thermoclines usually show up as a 1-3ft band of scattered marks, in a line across the screen, and well below the surface. So ...either of the lines at 20ft or 30ft "could" be it.
My experiences tell me that the heavy markings from 0ft - 15ft are surface clutter, or too high a setting on surface clarity. The "pole" shaped vertical marks are reminiscent of cross talk interference, or possibly the unit going bad ... but :dono for sure, since I don't have either of those units.

Pappy is right on, your seeing clutter. A thermocline is pretty easy to define once you know what your looking for. I like the looks of all the bait in the lights!!
