my wife got me a 798 ci hd di unit I like it a lot.i was told it has a dual plus transducer that is 83/200.i was told to get the best di and si I will need to buy a xnt-9qb-90 transducer quadrabeam plus to get 455.is it worth the money to buy it and will it show better detail.thank for any info you guy's can give me.

The quadbeam transducer would be a step backward as it isn't capable of DI or SI.
thank you for the info.how do you tell what transducer I have it don't say but I don't get 455 I see some of the new one's say's the have a xnt9-20t.but my si work's good.
The SI is using the 455, it's not something you can select. The unit automatically uses 455 for SI. There is no designated beam for the DI. H/B creates the DI image by computer programming using the SI beam. The 798 will not get as good DI images as a H/B unit that has a DI in it's model number. Unit's with a DI in the model number have a designated beam in the transducer for DI. The 798 isn't capable of using a DI transducer. My 798 transducer has a tag attached with the model number.
The xducer model designation should be printed on the xducer cable about a foot up from the xducer itself...

thank guy's I like the unit in si mode.just was woundering about 455 the box say's it.did not see a setting so the si must be set from factory with 455.

Some have upgraded the xducer to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T to get the advantage of the longer piezo element ...(longer element = thinner beam = more detail)...
(The 798 still cannot utilize the 800kHz frequency with this HDSI xducer)...
You may or may not be able to tell the difference on the 5" screen...
Maybe some will chime in that have actually upgraded to the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T ...to give their opinions if the longer xducer gives them better images...

When I purchased my 798 last year, I went ahead and upgraded to the better ducer. Can I say it made a difference, no, but then again I have not seen any images with the stock ducer, nor did I use the standard ducer that came with it. I have been very happy with my unit so far. Yes, the screen is small, but if I see something that I really want to look at, I either zoom in on the object or use an SD card and record and then take it home and watch it on the computer. For the money, I am glad with the purchase, but sure be nice to have a larger screen sometimes.
