Charger/Battery help

I bought 2 new Maxx 29's for my trolling motor. I have a promite 5/5/3 on board charger. I installed yesterday afternoon. I was surprised/worried this morning when both green and red lights (indicating either still charging or something is wrong according to the troubleshooting in manual...). My old batteries would recover overnight(Charger showing just green light/maintenance mode) after total depletion. Being new batteries, gonna assume i didn't buy a bad battery for this discussion.

I hooked em up just like the old batteries were..... Positive from main harness to Battery A and Neg from main harness to battery B. Then just a "jump over" wire from the other Positive/neg.

I did somehow make a "spark" while finishing up the connections. Could I have damaged the battery/batteries?

SHould new batteries take longer on initial charge?

Is there something else I can check....other than the batteries?

Check your connection from the charger to the batteries and also check your fuses on your charger

Thanks don.. Just got done reading on the chargers manufact web site about the fuses on the charger.. I know the connections are tight. Would the fuse in charger be blown if the lights are working?

Does anybody have experience with new batteries taking longer on initial charge?

Do u have it hooked up like this?

Should have a fuse in each Red lead going to each battery. Should be a rubber fuse holder that pushes together or twist locks. Should have Glass fuses. Do not put larger than called for fuses in them. .20 cent fuse cost me a charger.

EZ...I didn't check that, but my previous batteries charged fine. And I didnt change my cranking battery, so I never unhooked any of those connections.....I hope its a fuse, that i didn't check this morning before i left for work.

Unless you put a full charge on the batteries BEFORE you installed them, that might be the prob. I always trickle charge any new battery for 24 hours (prob. over kill) before I install or uses them in any situation. Most batteries do not have full charge when you tote them out of the store. Prob.not your issue, but just a thought.

Rep at promariner is saying that it takes a min of 18 hours before the charger will go into maitenance mode once unplugged and plugged back up. Im just calling BS , because it didn't do that before.....I think:biggrin
