boating the right way?
Sorry. This post has little to do with fishing but just my observation.
I have a boat bit during spawn its easier to just bank fish.
So my question is. Is it right for boats to just go full speed near the shore line? Especially when you see people on the banks fishing. I would say close enough that I can throw out a lure and hit them with it. It causes wakes and makes bank jig fishing harder in my opinion.
Also boaters that troll over where people on the banks are fishing. A group of us were catching fish and this boat trolled right over where we were casting and catching. Stopped and asked us what we were catching and where.
Seems like common courtesy things but some boaters don't seem to get it? When I am out and about moving around I stay away from other boats and try not to get close to bank fishers. Am I asking or expecting too much?

I personally try to be courteous to bank fishers when I'm in the boat. The way I see it they are very limited as far as the spots that they can get to, and I can go anywhere on the lake. And I would not drive that close to the bank on plane either, just very dangerous.

When I troll, alot of times especially when fish are on the dam I will troll close to the bank. I would say that I troll within casting distance of the bank 75% of the time. Some times there are bank fishermen sometimes not. If the area is being heavily used by bank fishermen I will move on and not be to a nuisance. However if it is only a soul or two I try to move in and out to stay away from their lines. I am here to catch fish also and it takes me 30 mins. to an hour to make a complete pass of a dam. Personally when I bank fish if I have to miss a cast or 2 waiting for a troller to pass by it doesn't bother me as long as he is moving on and not trying to stop in my spot. There are 2 sides to every story and courtesy can work both ways.

JD1 is right, courtesy does go both ways. However I have found in the last couple of years common courtesy is about as prominant as seeing an albino whitetail in the woods. Its quite simple really, whether in a boat or on the bank, respect the fishing area of others. If you are having a tough day and you see someone else catching fish....don't just run over there and try and get in on the action. Likely that individual put in a little effort to find their success, you should do the same. As far as buffer zones.....don't waste your breath, boaters are showing less common courtesty each and every time out. Its not just KS either. As a generalization, nobody cares about anything other than "ME ME ME" anymore.

As a general rule I have been very fortunate with the fishermen I encounter either on the bank or in a boat. A friendly howdy, Any luck? I usually tell them what I am seeing on the graph on my way through. That is one thing I really enjoy about this forum. See things through others eyes and realise that fella 2 spots down is that same fella you posted with last night. Good luck and Enjoy.

I try to talk to everyone I see on the water the banks, I tell them what success I have had and how. We all learn by sharing information, just like on this site. My two cents.

I try to talk to everyone also. But there are some people that tick you off before you can strike a conversation.
I always try to help kids when I am fishing. If they aren't catching or aren't having a good time I go out of my way to try to make their day better.
Oh well. Just a mini rant. Went out a couple days ago and a couple pleasure boats were just creating waves for us fishing on the banks.
