Government Removing Tree Tops/ Laydowns From Bayous

Our tax dollars at work messing up the fishing. Today I met a fallen tree removal crew in Jennings on Bayou Nezpique. They are clearing the very laydowns that I like to catch crappie on. At least 10 men, some small barges, excavators, and tree grinders are in the operation.

They informed me that the Coast Guard paints the trees and then they pull them out with the excavator and put them on small barges. They then bring the trees to the park in Jennings and it looked today like they where grinding them up to burn.

They have completed their work in Bayou Plaquemine and are now working from Jennings to the North and are going for miles. When done they will go South. After all that they are heading to the Calcasieu River.

I sure would like to hear some justification for all that natural habitat destruction. I wouldn't be surprised if the only ones to benefit is a politician and the contractor.

Well the Goverment is known for one thing. "If it works they will do their best to break it."

I posted about this last November. If the bayou is part of the senic river system WL&F can stop it.

I called and email everone from my congress men, to sports reporters. Got no response/action. The guy with WL&F in charge of the senic rivers is out of the Monroe office. It took them 2 weeks to stop the clearing on the Tchfuncate river. The permit was for man made debris only. Never did remove the man made debris.The were pulling logs off the bank.

It's sad that no one in authority seems to care.

Well. With the way the gov't works it will take some time to finish. By then there will be many more lay downs in the river. Are they doing the mermentau also? Either way. It's a long project.

Overly optimistic IMHO. Go to the park in Jennings and you will see the contractor is really ramped up. They have already done alot and are moving fast.

I wonder just how far north they are coming I like all the trees and tops in D'Arbonne bayou good fishing and it slows the bass fisherman down

I am not sure why they do that either. The Bayou Vermillion River District runs their barge by my place doing the same thing twice a year. I'll ask them next time I see them.

This happened a while back here also on the Red River out of Natchitoches, only it was not the Gov. But commercial fisherman. They cleared out all the tops in one oxbo many that we're put there by a man I know, just so they could run nets in the area.

Are these rivers/bayou part of the senic river act?

This is federal money for storm cleanup. Coast Gaurd is in charge of the contractors and don't care what is done IMO

the RIVER Act of 2013, Improve Inland Waterways Trust Fund. ... is were the money is coming from. No response from Vittter or Landrui sp? on this.:dono
