1st time tying

Nice colors and looks good, but it also looks like you tied them and then cut the tail to length. Shouldn't do that and should cut the end your going to tie in and not the end of the tail as you want that looking as natural as you can.

Also if that is marabou you don't want to leave the stem in and you should pull the barbules off and stack them until you have enough to pinch, cut and tie in.

Thanks for the info I used some the other day and caught a 2 1/2 lbs catfish and 1 3/4 crappie

Oh I am sure they will catch fish like they are, but without the stem the marabou will have such great action. You can hold it by the boat and see it for your self. I am just trying to be constructive and not knocking your tying. I am just trying to help a little.

If you have a marabou feather that has a very fine stem you can leave that kind in if you want and still look good. I only do tat when one is very tiny and usually if I am tying a short tail. Most of my tails are a bit on the long side because that is the way I like them, but say if someone wanted me to tie some for them and ask for a short tail I would make a short tail, but usually still without the stem.

Not bad at all for your first tyes. Skip is dead on about the tying of marabou, nothing wrong with learning to tie a jig the right way.

Try blood marabou. You tie one fly with each piece and very little waste. Sometimes it is called wollybugger marabou. Even though it is really turkey flats. Marabou comes from the Marabou stork and getting rare. Looks really good for a beginner.

Good work on the first ties. We all went through the learning curve and made a lot of the same mistakes. Welcome from middle Tennessee. When you get time read through some of the old posts, lots of smarts contained there.
