I May...emphasis on MAY>>>change my current 25 hp 2 stroke merc tiller on the back of my 1650 DS triton to a new evinrude E-tec 40 HP tiller......The 25 will do fine with me and one other, but when I have 3 of us in the boat....THERE JUST AIN'T ENOUGH HORSES!!! Tough to run to a couple of spots when it's loaded! Anyone repower a rig like this???? Sportscenter guy said it would be a ton of difference!!!! Better be for the money!
I have seen u with clients and agree u r under powered. I also agree with the guy @ The Sports Center. Scott James is who I have dealt with there. Tell him Dan from Slab Masters recommended him if you talk with them more.
I have a 60 Etec and love it. Great power in a small package that sips fuel and oil. Only 1 problem in 4 years and used a lot. Probably over 250 hours on it now. Fuel injector went out 2 weeks shy of warranty expiring. I believe Hooker has the same motor I have and had the same issue. Those motors under 175 HP are the best on the market in my opinion.
I would say with customers on the line, an upgrade would benefit you in the long run.
only thing i would chane is stering . 40 hp with stick stering . i like sitting up frunt to see where i am going and for tying up on the river and running the troling motor for dock shooting .that way you never have to leave the seat . guess i am gitting old and can`t git up as good as i use to .
Yep Dan.....you hit it on the head! What to do what to do...hard to turn loose of a lot of cash ..but an upgrade may be in the future!!!! I've got the boat set up good, but power is an issue with a load...sell mine...add 6k with it and buy another boat....but I'd spend another 2k pimping that one out....hard to drop $$$$ on a new motor that's worth more than my whole rig....drop 10-12k on a used center console....that's a lot of trips to break even.....finding a good used 40 tiller is not common in the southeast..and I'd rather buy new than get someone else's problems....it's only money right????? Hahaha....uh...my wife didn't hear that did she?????
1st question should be how many trips with how many persons are you expecting in a season or year. If that number exceeds 5, in my opinion, then a bigger boat with more HP is needed. Folks dropping $$ on a fishing trip expect to catch fish and catch them comfortably. Now with that said, $$$$ is the evil factor in the whole deal. $$$$ is always spent more than is returned when it comes to fishing. Shop around iBoats and some other sites for the particular rig you want. Watch how prices change over the season on used boats. New will change a little slower. If my job situation was better, I know I would be trying to buy that Triton TA196 that is on the classifieds, or a center console rig like the War Eagle or Express have in the 19' range. I could crappie fish, fun fish, saltwater fish, and carry 5-8 people out on the water legally and safely. Not sure what the Sports Center quoted you on a new tiller handled 40 HP. I think with trading in my current motor and going to a 90 or 115 it was only adding another 4-5k versus buying a new one out right and having to sell my current one on my own at some point. Anyway you do it, make sure you check around at different setups of similar boats to yours on the internet. Good luck with the guiding. I know it is a lot of work and stress. Have thought about it myself a couple times, but I just can't make the jump yet.
Yep.....I agree! My front deck setup is wide and comfortable......but a 19ft center console would be sweet! You know I do this part time...more so oct-April...but I did 10-12 trips last feb and march....much busier than I first anticipated.....I'll be looking and to quote Richard Dreyfus....."I think we're gonna need a bigger boat!".....
there is a lot of boats out there for sale i know of 2 of them here and nothing wrong with them but just don`t use them becouse of health reason .if a boat motor is run right and sevised it will last for years .i pass by a boat that is for sale and i think he also has a center consol for sale to . the one that is foe sale is a mercuray he bought from a man that got sick and couldn`t use it anymor and he is not able to go by his self and probabley can`t git in it becouse og weight and health . i think it is a 40 hp mercuray $1700.00.maby less now as it has men sitting ther covered uo for over a year except the time he took it in to be checked out . if i could aford it i would buy it and sell what i have .but i never buy new to much loss when you do that .
Darn tootin Papasage! I bought a new pontoon 9 years ago for your house on sinclair....but knew I was gonna keep it forever....New boats are Ridiculous !!!!
Jody, you should talk Cuz out of his center console. It has a 90 hp Yamaha. Top speed 35 mph. excellent condition.
