Occoquan Reservoir- report 5/18

Launched at Fountainhead, water temps hovered at 71. Water color/clarity was the usual dingy-green. Cloudy, rainy, 62 degF.

Crappie were scattered on the graph--mostly small groups of 2-5. The east cliff wall that can be seen from the ramp was best bet, but only produced small fish. Fished small minnows on slip corks and caught fish at 19 feet in 34-37 feet of water. Moving into coves and banks, found more specs on BG shads at 4-5 feet. No keepers--rained out--still a good day.

One of my favorite days with my grandfather, was a day we caught no fish, it was cold and windy. But I remember it and just spending time together. Your boy has that smile!

Xpress XP180 Explorer w/Yamaha 115/80 jet pump OB. I had it custom built last summer. 1st new boat in my life.

Thanks. I needed a good river jet. Xpress sold me on their deck plan. The lids love that it's more than just another bassboat. Sometimes they crash on the floor and take naps out of the weather. I've burned it WOT in 6-8 inches of water. Jet boating 101: NEVER let off the throttle until you're sure you have LOTS of water under you.
