I have a question, I saw a video on youtube where a guy who makes crappie jigs only uses one v cut section of hackle and I on the other hand want a more full looking tail. So to all those jig tyers out there, how many sections of hackle do you use.

I'm no expert but I will use 2-3 "tips" per jig, saving the "V" and the rest of the feather. The softer, more flexible "V's" I'll use, usually 1 per jig added to 2 tips or a "pinch" of barbules. Here is 1 with 3 tips

Here, the jig on the right has 3 tips, the left jig has 1 tip and a pinch of barbules and the 2nd from the right has 1 "V" and a pinch of barbules and the 2nd from the left has just a pinch of barbules.

If you use only the tips, or the tips and some of the "V's", you'll be throwing away a lot of material. That's my $.02
I use 1 tip and 2-3 V's. I also have a lot of feed back from customers that catch a lot of fish so this works for me and a lot of other fishermen!
