Vic...can you explain a little more about how you reconfigured a DI unit to show SI images...??

*Which xducer are you using to do this... ??
*Are you using separate Xducers to get certain images...??

*How does a DI unit show SI images when there is no processor programming to render a SI image..?? - I am a piping/mechanical engineer and did not know that it is impossible, I just pluged SI transducer in 385 and it worked. In DI window SI works absolutely the same way as DI with the same settings. In 2D window it was very dark first, but after turning on the switch fair and setting all filters for max it became visible.

Would love to make this happen on one of my 858c DI units.........Youtube please on the cable mod and it will get a gzillion hits.....i suspect there will be an "update" that fixes this

I use 10-15 feet of this cable to avoid wave influence. All the images were taken while the waves were up to 2 feet, my small inflated boat was jumping on those waves like a toy, but the images and the bottom line on them are OK. All length of cable is 50 feet, and I use it to take images from ice on big depths to get images closer to the bottom.

I exposed wires on extension cable with 7 pins and 7 wires inside. I cut the wire from very upper pin and connected its inlet end to the lower wire without cutting it.

So I'm understanding that you modified the wire-to-pin configuration in the extension cable and not the SI xducer cable.... -Can you tell me what the upper pin channel was for (pre-modification) in the modified extension cable connector end...?? -Extension cable has the same pins and wires that SI transducer cable has, it just has two extra wires (lower left and lower right) that are not in use and I did not touch them. It does not matter which cable to cut - all the same. Upper pin is for sending signal for 2D sonar crystal, it has the same power and frequency as DI has (upper/right pin).

Can you tell me what the very lower pin channel was for (pre-modification) in the modified extension cable connector end.?? - lower pin in 385 sonar is empty, but lower pin in SI transducer is for left side imaging crystal, and I redirected 2D signals from upper sonar pin to lower transducer pin for SI left side.

Can you post into this thread what your HB unit displays when in each "Di window it shows right SI side" and 2d window it shows left SI side" ... (see below) the first picture is "Di window it shows right SI side" , the second "2d window it shows left SI side", the 3-d shows both sides of split screen.

-Can you post into this thread what your HB unit displays when in this "2d window one can only see negative SI views"...?? - please see the second picture below. Actually it is a "Grey" palette in sonar, but I call it negative because it shows shadows in white collor.

Now my friends are waiting for Humminbird 398 SI, but what is shown in shop advetisments does not look good: down/side imaging capabilities are reduced three times till 100 feet, and side images on screen are 1.5 less then I have on 385, but they could be 2 times wider then I have, if to use vertical views for split screen side imaging views, not horizontal.
