Three citations at Diascund

Doodlum & I hit DR today--hoping to pick up where we left off last week.

The weather wasn't perfect. Rain off & on throughout the day became steady rain by late afternoon.

Winds weren't bad, however, and the WT was mid-60s and above.

Pete landed the first citation (a 12.5" YP) and the third (a 15.5"crappie).

In between, I got this 40-incher into the boat.

Overall, the bite was strong but size was on the small side. By the time the game was called on account of rain, my clicker stood at 116, and Pete landed at least an equal number. Keeper-size fish weren't as plentiful as last week. I might have had 15 - 20 that would go 10".

We stuck to the deep water, but any technique we tried worked. Pete spent most of the day longlining. I floated corks (minnows on bare hooks, minnows on jigs, and plain jigs) and vertical-jigged.

Good report Corker, and a nice catch. I'm wondering how you are catching those toothy fish. On the river I often have them hit but have rarely landed one. The fellows that fish for them (yes, there are a few) take about 6" of nylon line (rope) and double it over. they close the loop with a wire tie (flourescent color) and then shred the rest of the lure with a wire brush, making it look like a bucktail. No hook is used. They tie into the loop with a heavy line and then drift their home made lures with the tide in the summer. When the gar strike, their teeth become tangled in the shredded nylon, allowing them to be boated without ever encountering a hook. I'm not sure what they do with the fish, but I am told that some of the Chickahominies still eat them. Thanks again for the good report.

Boy, it was Nasty here yesterday, When it stopped raining, we had "heavy mist" rain. ( I got soaked in short walk in "mist") Glad you all got out, Like ID said, I need to get out! Plan to hit BDR Thursday or Friday.
( minnows on porch,, need to look up winds and decide)

Yesterday was one of those memorable fishing days. Nice layed back day playing bumper boats between the three of us. Richard and Greg I really enjoyed the day . We'll have to gang bang LCR next.

Boats connected! Since next 2 days seem same on winds and temp And seems like you have done good on days with cloud cover & I've done worst on sunny days;) I'm going back to BDR tomorrow. ( some cloud cover / sunny Friday) LYK what happens.
