this is weird. Thousands of dead Asian Carp

Went to some back water areas off of the Missouri River. The only time you can get in is if the river is up some. Well just before we got to the entrance started seeing dead asian carp on the bank and floating in the water. Some way up the bank. got into the back water and there was thousands of them dead. Some floating but most on the banks. It had to have happened last weekend when the water was flooded because some of them were 10ft. up the bank. Starting to smell pretty bad. Biggest puzzle is what killed them. I don't think there is anything you can put into the water that would just kill them. No other kind of fish dead just those stupid carp. There is all kinds of fish in there and nothing else was bothered. Not complaining just curious as to what happened. Glad they are gone. Wish the rest of them would go. There was also 42 white pelicans hanging out back there. Guess they thought they had hit the jackpot. I can only imagine what it is going to smell like after a couple days of warm weather. Should draw in buzzards for miles. It is one of those HMMMMMMMM things.

Funny thing is they have been pretty aggressive in trying to keep them out of the great lakes via migration up the Mississippi river, but apparently they have made it to the great lakes anyways. These fish are prolific breeders and can quickly over run a fishery. Not good news but mass die off is, if only it does not effect the other fish species, but most likely it will depending on the reason.

It seems like it was a virus that only carp get. It affects the swim bladder. No other fish harmed. But that area still stunk 3 weeks later.

Hahahaha I bet it did! Good to hear no other fish were harmed in this event!
