I recently helped restore a old boat - at my suggestion the owner bought one of these new epa approved 5/6 gal plastic tanks. Well after 6 months it looks like a balloon and will blow gas thru the carb if you leave the line hooked up. Whats the deal - do I need to put a airhole in the cap?
All gas tanks must be vented to work properly.
If it's and ole boat with old motor that took the 2 line connector your going to have to have a vented cap at the least.
That'ss the nature of those. The vent is a one way vent. It will only let air in, in one direction. That's to keep fuel leaking out the vent during expansion. Yes they do get like a balloon
If it's blowing fuel out of the carburator. That means the inlet needle is not seating under the float tension. Obstruction or floats not set correctly.
