how long can you leave fish on ice before cleaning them?

3 days easy, key is to keep the water drained off of them.

I try not to go over 2 days. If I know it will be longer or real hot I make sure it is large cooler. I put a bag of ice on bottom leaving it in the bag. Add fish. Add another bag (still in bag) on top. Agree must keep water drained off.

Add a bunch of ice n take the drain plug out of the cooler. I have a 150 qt cooler n ill catch em prefishing Friday n clean them Sunday. Never had a problem

X2, How old do you think most "fresh" seafood is? My guess is 3-5 days average.

Grandad always told me until their gills turned light pink/white. I have kept them for 5 days on ice and the gills were still red/dark pink. Never had a problem.

Let me clarify.........................................ar ound here we can get a 16 lbs bag for $1.50 at the 24 hour ICE HOUSE stations. I don't use the store bought small bags that are half froze and melt before you can get a beer cold. BIG DIFFERENCE.
