I use one on my home made remote control pondtoon. I have about a 70 foot range. Does the job just fine.

I had one and had absolutely no luck using it. The screen is so small and light sensitive that I never got a decent reading from it, even in a small lake where I knew the location of ledges and submerged logs. A cute idea but better to invest in bait or a new rod than the Smartcast IMO.
I have read that the module is moisture activated some how and that storing it in a damp tackle box will keep the power turned on in the module and run the battery down...
And I don't think the battery in the module is replaceable...
So if you get one...store it in a dry place...

We call it a “wet switch” and it is moisture (or metal) activated. So you do need to store the “bobber” in a dry place that also will not allow the pins on the wet switch to come in contact with metal or some other conductive surface.
The bobber is welded closed so the battery is not replaceable.
The smartcast works just fine.
