New gold jigs

Painted some up with the Jacquard Pearl EX mica type powder and clear
orbit powder.

Ones on the left are redman heads with gold bottom with a tap of black on top and black mallard for the tail

The ones on the right are ballheads that I flattened into pill heads painted gold and black glitter coat, maribou tail and chenille body and a strip of gold mylar on each side

New gold spinners one's on the left are 1/16th and have black mallard on the treble and the ones on the right are 1/8th and have saddle hackle with a collar wrap.

They look pretty darn good. I tried some gold paint a couple years back and have not done any since and just ended up buying plated heads in Gold. I was using Pro-Tec and didn't put any clear over them. Maybe that helps or maybe that brand of gold is different?? Have you tried Pro-Tec to have a comparison? I know most of the powder paint if made by one company and the rest just buy their paint from them and label it with their labels. I do know the Mfg. even makes some for companies and just make that color for the one company and not sell it to everyone.

Skip - I bought the Jacquards Pearl EX Series II set - Jacquard Products - Pearl Ex Sets
I mix it 2 parts clear to 1 part whichever color, you could go to 3-1 mix if you wanted to, I have not tried this stuff in a fluid bed yet. It's roughly $20 but you get 12 colors.
Haven't tried the gold from Pro-Tec but starting to get away from buying it except for a few colors I haven't found at Columbia Coatings or Rosy's Powder. The stuff all cures the same except for a 2 part process with the Dormant colors, won't buy any more of those after the sample pack I got is gone.

Interesting as they have several different Golds. I already have so much paint though I am not sure I want to get started with more. I bought a pound of each color I use and even though some of them I split with someone, still have a huge amount, LOL!

I think for someone who wants to try powder painting getting this set or one of the other 2 and a lb. of clear that's 12 colors to start at a fairly cheap price. I've been really surprised at some of the colors and have several left to try!!

Do you Powder coat your lure bodies? and if so do you have any tips?

Flies - yes I powder coat the bodies, they are lead bodies poured from a Do-It mold that I got in a trade. The wires that they're molded on I cut the ring and the bottom off and bend the wire in an L shape so it fits either in the jar or in the fluid bed.

These are my curing racks, cheap and easy to make. Just aluminum bread pans and I lift all the edges straight up and use a hole punch around the edges to hang jigs from.
http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/100_4272.jpgIf you look at the top left pan you can see that I just stick the wires down through one of the holes and ususally out the side of the pan for stability. Any drips go inside the pans

Heat the bodies just like a jig and dip in the powder in a quick side to side
movement just deep enough to cover it. If you find any spots take a paint brush heat the spot lightly and tap a bit of powder on it and set with your heat source. Cure just like your jigs.

The fun comes when taking the wires out!! any powder that gets on the wire just take needle nose plies put them around the wire and do a circular motion to clear it and then wiggle the bodies off. I keep the wires as one batch the wires got pulled and I just stick the wire in and reuse it.
