I only caught 1 fish but .....

Overall my fishing this year has been way off compared to my last couple of years. I guess working too much does that. Anyway I really wanted to carry the boat out today but decided not to because of the wind forecast. Glad I didn't. Went across the street to fish the lake from shore near where I live this morning. Wind was really blowing by 9:00 AM. In years past this lake has been real good to me but after many trips this year I had only caught a grand total of 2 crappie. Started jigging along the dock with a 1/32 oz stinger style jig, no bites until I got out to about 12' of water fishing around 8' deep when this baby hit. She really put up a nice fight on my ultralight reel with 4lb test. Took a few pictures and slipped her back in the water but tried as I may she would not swim away. Had to end up bringing her home. :( Fished for 1-1/2 more hours with no bites. I guess if you are just going to catch one it might as well be a good one. She measured 17" long with a girth of 14-1/2". On my scales she weighted 2 lbs 12 ozs. Here are a few pictures.

Is that a tail fin in its throat? Nice fish, looks mighty windy there.

Yep, looks like she had just eaten a good sized shad.

And that makes 3! Thanks for the report. I was been offered use of a boat there, but still haven't taken advantage of offer.

I'm surprised it didn't weigh more than that.

I wonder why? Usually not a problem this time of year with the cooler water temps.

WTG Roy,like you said if only one let it be a good one, two years ago I caught five 17 inches in less than a month and cannot catch one since, biggest now 16 ,so you are ahead of me, good job

Good job Roy, Thats a very nice nice one. I would fish all day for that one fish. She sure still has a belly full of eggs.

Wow, that's a nice one, too bad she didn't make it. Could have been a 3 pounder next year. Congrats on the nice catch. One like that is reward enough.
