Worms would be better this time of year. I'm going this afternoon in Tennessee, so you should be able to catch some.
They are not awake at Pickwick yet.

I fished Lake Graham twice this week here in W Tn. where I can normally wear out the big Bluegills and Redears with crickets. Only caught one bluegill each trip and a few small bass and they all came from 8ft or deeper. They are not awake yet but after today the water should now be above 60 so they should start stirring.
i don't see why you couldn't hook some bluegills with live bait down there.few days ago i was catching them up here in southern nj on a jig spinner with panfish assassin body threaded on a 1/32oz jig.they were agressively attacking

see above post . switched from ultra lite to fly rod .the red ear are bedded .
