ATM's Minnow Tank

Thanks to Handicrappie I started with a 125 gallon chemical tank. We cut the top out of it with a reciprocating saw. Then over a three day period, I washed and rinsed and soaked it with 1 1/2 gallons of amonia several times.

It comes with a 2" built in drain.

Added 100 gallons of water, which I let set for 48 hours, and 2 cups of salt, thanks to jigflinger.

Hooked up a Whitewater LT-11 Linear Air Pump To a 5.2" air stone; both bought from Aquasythe.com for $69.95 and $7.95 respectively.

Then connected a Fluval External Filter bought from Amazon.com for $159.68.

I feed them 15-20 pellets of Trophy Fish Feed a couple of times a week; bought from Tractor Supply for $12.99.

And scoop them with a Frabill Bait net; bought from Sportsmen's Warehouse, on sale at 50% off, for $7.92.

I've had 3 pounds of minnows, thanks to jigflinger, in the tank for six days and lost 8 minnows. This includes a couple of fishing trips that I dumped the unused bait back in the tank.

Nice rig, I'll take one at my house too... Thats a pretty good living rate, especially after takin em fishin.

With the external filter, how is that hooked up? Is it used for recirculation, or filling, please enlighten this idjit

It has two hoses you see hanging over the side of the tank. The intake hose goes all the way to the bottom of the tank. The output hose only goes about 4" below waterline. The left 1/2 of the canister is a multi layer foam filter. The other 1/2 is four baskets. One basket contains foam, two contain charcoal, and the last some coral looking stuff. The filter is designed so a smart person can fill the baskets with whatever is needed to meet their specific cleaning needs.
I'm hoping to skip routinely needing to change the water by having the filter.

Now i can stop and get minnows on way to lake...If i can ever get time to go :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Thats pretty nice....I am working on a way to store and hold minnows also....been gathering up a few things.

Thanks for the clarification, lift from bottom drop in top, prevents the need to drain and refill... Looks like the way to do it right there.

"G", I would highly recommend the air pump. It is a small commercial air pump that's supposed to last several years before needing to be rebuild. I went ahead and bout the rebuild kit for $6.95. I originally hooked it to two large air stones, but had to cut back to just the one stone. With two it made so many bubbles I thought it was going to beat my minnows to death. It is one BAD air pump!

It has a built in plunger that you pump three or four times to fill the filter, then you plug it in and it's ready to run.

I like it,great setup.Handi i need a tank bad.Surely i gots something you need,i don't do cash only trading.
