If anything the ink is safer. Back in the day ink was alcohol based, when I was in the industry it was soy based, and it may be water based today. I remember my dad and grandpa using newspaper back in the 70's. The problem with color is the color is made up from a variety of elements from the periodic table. Not all of them are worm friendly. Stick to the black and white pages and you'll be fine.
