Thinking about getting a new finder and looking at the $200 range. I can get either a GPS / Finder or a DSI unit. Which do you guys think is more helpful?

I would have to go with the GPS over the DSI if I had to pick one. My GPS is invaluable to me. I often take and extra 30 minutes to an hour while I am on the water and go look for brush and structure and then mark it on my GPS so I can go back and fish it later. Many of the piles I fish are small piles and trying to find them by triangulation from shore landmarks would take a long time. With the GPS I can go right to it and normally find the pile on the first or second pass, throw a buoy and start fishing.
The GPS is also nice if you have one of the updated lake maps as it will show you contours and other features so you can zone in on particular areas when looking for fish or structure. I rely on my GPS more than I do the DSI or Side Scan.

I think I would try and save up a few more bucks and get a unit that does both, that would save you from having to upgrade later which we all eventually do. I think there's units out there in the $400-$500 range, I know that's double what you're talking about but in the long run it'll be worth it. :twocents:fish
I'm looking for something now for the console and will be saving up for something for the trolling motor later
Bass pro has a humminbird down image and gps for $300. It is a monochrome unit though not color. It uses a sd card so you can transfer waypoints to other hummijnbird units.
I would vote for both, needed on consul and trolling motor. IMHO
Buy $50 binoculars. See some of my previous posts.
I don't think on Milford a pair of binoculars are going to do me much good unless KAG or droptinejoe are out there.....
I went into bass pro looking at a 2d sonar/GPS last week. I was in the $400 range when I was looking. Ended up spending the $50 more to get the GPS with it all. About double what you are looking at, but can do it all, and should make you happier in the long run. Another option would be to look for a used unit somebody is selling. Before I had this unit I stored all my fishing spots in the handheld GPS I used for duck hunting.
