Hello,
The name is Cole.
I've lived up here for about two years now. I'm an Independence, KS native, and fishing up here is a little different to say the least. Anyone in the Saline county area know of any decent spots to fish for crappie, catfish, or any other game species?

Salinians are migraters when it comes to fishing, although centrally located, we must travel to fish. About the closest waters you'll find to fill your needs would be OSFL. One must then move to the larger lakes or I hear some of the Walk-in ponds can be good at times, to catch the species you desire. :ThumbsUp

I kinda figured there wasn't much worth fishing locally. I've been to Kanopolis, Ottawa, and Wilson (caught some nice wipers!). Being from Independence, KS, I'm not accustomed to traveling more than twenty minutes to a good spot. I'm more of a river rat anyways; grew up on the Elk, Verdigris, and Neosho. Do you know if the Saline or Smoky Hill ever yield any decent sized cats? Perhaps one of the two is worth fishing after a good rain?

Sure they do, I haven't fished them in years though. Nothing ventured-nothing gained.
Cole, don't count out Ottawa county state lake. It tends to give up some surprisingly nice crappie, channels and of late saugeyes. Caught a report of a couple fellas walk trolling and catching some nice ones over the last couple of evenings. Try to catch a hard rain and fish the upper end with a good run off flowing in for some really good channels too.
Thanks. We'll see how much time I actually have time to fish this month. Only five more weeks of school left and they're piling the work on me.
My in-laws used to live in Lindsborg, did a lot of fishing up there, mainly in Kanopolis. They had a big deck boat and we spent a lot of time trolling for walleyes.
Also did the occasional float trip down the Republican river, caught quite a few nice flatheads and channels. We would camp overnight on an island and caught most of our fish on trotlines set overnight.
Salina native here. We've been down to Marion County Lake a few time for Crappie this year, one trip was pretty good, the other two not so great. But starting around now the bite should be pretty good there for Crappie and White Bass. Hoping we get some good rains soon so Kanop can get some water close enough to launch a boat. Haven't caught much for Crappie there but the walleye should be awesome in a few weeks. Bennington (or Ottawa State Fishing Lake) can be good for Crappie and eye's also. If we can't get the boat on Kanop next weekend we'll probably head up there.
