I have a H 597 on my TM and a H Matrix 10 at the console. My question is, Can I safely plug the 597 into the Matrix 10 mount. I can sacrifice the sonar at the console, if necessary; my primary interest is to have Nav/GPS function at the console when under way.

Received this email from Humminbird. I am a bit confused but my instinct tells me that as long as there is a load at the transducer connection, no damage to the 597 should result.

Your copy of the correspondence with HB lists the 597ci HD DI...
The HB DI units are different animals than their other products of which interchanging parts could damage your unit internally...
If your unit is indeed the DI, then follow HB's answer...

DI makes a difference.
LaShawn and Rickie are correct: the 597ci HD DI model unit cannot use the Matrix 10 transducer without possibly damaging the internal circuitry of the 597ci HD DI unit. You are also correct in that there is a load that no damage should result – the problem is that the Matrix 10’s transducer does not load the DI transmit lines. Not only that but the Matrix 10 and 597ci HD Di use two different sets of 2D sonar frequencies and sonar beam widths, so you would not have full 2D sonar capability with the 597ci HD DI even if it did not fail.
