When I take off with the big motor my depth reading on my 998si goes to zero and stays that way until I slow down to a crawl?? Also I'm having trouble getting water spots off my front 858di unit, I've tried windex and eyeglass lens cleaner but it doesn't seem to help:scratchhead
What kinda boat you got the 998 on? Bet it has a step hull. Probably lifting the transducer out of the water.Quote:

Take the Windex Multisurface Wiskers recommended and completely wet a soft rag...
Lay it directly on the screen and leave it there for a while...
Then dry the screen with a soft towel ...(I use a glasses microfiber towel)..

Try dropping the transducer 1/4 inch at at time and see if that helps your issue. I use plain white vinegar mixed 50-50 with water to remove the water spots off my units screen. Let the mixture stay on the screen for a couple of minutes before removing with a soft cloth.
Hey Wiskers my boat is a Basscat and I think it does have a "step" hull but I had this unit " professionally installed" and they did a real clean job and put the transducer below the jackplate which looked like to me to be the most logical place...I'd hate to have to move it and drill more holes in the hull....I did have them leave my in dash sonar hooked up so I can use that for depth it just kinda sucks when I've got that big screen in front of me and not have a depth readout . Thanks guys for the input and I'll try the vinegar solution to get rid of the water spots. :highfiveQuote:

If your boat is fiberglass you can install an "inside the the hull" 2d Xducer on a AS SiDB Y cable and get high speed depth readings and be able to keep the HDSI Xducer up higher on the jackplate where it is protected for idle speed 2d/DI/SI...

"Professionally installed" just means that you paid someone to do it. If they knew what they were doing they should have told you that you would not get dpeth readings at high boat speeds as that area would be out of the water. Make sure that whoever installs the XP-9-20 does the on-water testing or it may not work correctly.
