I'm looking for a small outboard, under 10 horsepower to put on the back of a little pond boat, just to use as a ballast and rudder. If you've got one like that that doesn't run or know where I might find one for free, please holler at me.
BTW, I'm in Memphis.

bout 3 five gallon buckets of water will work well and be a lot easier to tote also.
The weight in the back definitely helps some, I already have a bucket of quikrete in the back. I mostly want an outboard to work as a rudder.
The boat is one of those Bass Tender types, it is smooth on the bottom with no keel and it just doesn't track or steer in a straight line at all, it tends to spin around sideways every time you let off of the trolling motor. I think using a little outboard on the back as a rudder may solve the problem.
As far as toting it, this boat stays in one place so it will be the last stop for whatever I find to put on it :)
Mount ya a 2x4 on the back of the transom with some C-clamps. give ya a little drag to help keep straight
Get old clamp on trolling motor,remove motor, split shaft up about a foot. Cut a piece of aluminum to fit that would stick back about 8-10 in lock it down and that will stop your spinning.

Mo, I thought about making a homemade rudder with wood like that too, just thinking a clamp on motor or troller would be easy to raise and lower when I need it. I may go that route if nothing else turns up though.

Your right RG I'd much rather re use something for another purpose than go out and buy something. What you can do also on those old motors. Remove the lock down part that keeps it from tilting, attach a bungie cork across it. That way if you fish around stumps, logs stuff like that it will just slide over then right back where it was.
