I took a cooler, a live well pump, trolling motor battery, peice of rubber hose, and a livewell water sprayer, and made a bait hauler for slicks last summer. hook the hose to the pump and sprayer, place in cooler full of water, and hook pump up to battery. aerates a cooler full of slicks in 90 degree heat for 3 days, no losses.
Try that, less than $30, most came from Wally-World.
I use these:
Cabela's: Frabill Min-O2-Life Magnum Aerated Bucket
And these work for a few days if it isn't hot and you watch 'em. They'll work great for a day. They are also very portable, but bigger than most. I also use this one to bring my live minnows home after a fishing trip, and it does great for that in any weather. At home I have a big aerated tank. Or do what LMB says, that works great if you know how to do it.
Just have them put them in a large bag with oxygen. They will stay alive for 24 hours easy and on my last trip it was 36 hours before we opened our second bag and they were all alive and well. Keep them out of direct sunlight and in the shade if you can. Pillows is where I always buy mine......

Yeah, what he said. I didn't think of saying that! But yeah, many times I just stick the entire aerated bag in a big cooler, and add a block of ice if needed.............BUT...........TRUE STORY......I put too much ice in there one time, and bought them the afternoon before. On the trip there, we stopped and got breakfast, and my fishing buddy looked in the cooler and said "All the minnows are dead". OUCH. But we went on anyway. We had been slaying them, and we figured dead minnows or jigs, we'd do something.
When we put the 'dead' minnows in the livewell buckets in the boat, they S L O W L Y came back to life! Not all, some were really dead. But they were just frozen, or suspended animation, or something! Most of 'em were fine after a while.
So, I recommend you not put too much ice!!!
X2 on aerated bags and cooler
I had some last year Handi brought me that stayed 48 hours in the bag just fine. I just took big cooler, put 3 2ltr bottles of froze water in cooler and sat bag in cooler on top of the bottles to keep it cool. Lost 1 minnow out of 2lbs.
Go to academy sports. They have the bubble box that works real good. I bought mine down in Gulf Shores because I was fishing with live shrimp. They are harder to keep alive than a shinner and it work great. It will run for about 48 hours on two batteries. I can buy shinners and keep them alive all week long. Of course this all depends on the water temperature. Keeping them cool helps. Putting a few pieces of ice in the bucket will do the trick. I may buy 3 dozen shinners and not use them for up to three days and not loose a single one. The bubble box only cost about 12-15 dollars.
Pillows has best minnows around! I swear to this- we bought minnows one weekend, left in cooler with NO bubbles or nothing and they kept for over 2 weeks. I am huge fan of pillows bait. we go there before we head up to reelfoot and they will keep entire time we're gone
