If anybody has used well nuts to mount a trolling motor how did it work out? Putting my new terrova on my xpress bass boat and cannot see how to get to put regular nuts on the bolts. Always could cut a hole and put a round screw in cover on it but hate cutting on my boat. Either well nuts or toggle bolts seem to be the only way. Any good methods?
I don't know what a well nut is. The last bow mount I installed came with some rubber nut type contraptions that swoll up when tightened. Works kinda like a toggle bolt i suppose.

We use rivnuts, or some call them nutserts. It's a 1/4-20 threaded rivet. Takes a special tool to install them. It's what Xpress uses from the factory.

I would highly recommend you get the MK Quick Release bracket to mount your Terrova. I got one because I needed to move the motor off the bow to put on the cover I store it with. The bracket makes installing the motor a snap. The one problem I had, which may be yours also, was accessing the underside of the deck to hold the nuts when you install the "puck" that the motor mounts onto. I actually got my arm stuck under there and wondered if I would either have to gnaw my arm off or call 911. I was able to finally get all 4 nuts and bolts installed. The way the unit works, you intall a base unit on your deck with 4 botls and the mating part goes on your trolling motor. It is all predrilled and fits perfectly. It is so much easier to install the small bracker than trying to install the motor directly to the bow, plus you can take if off if you need to in about 10 seconds. (You can lock it in place to keep a thief from stealing)
