Just curious if anyone still uses an old-style flasher unit on their boat. I know they still have a big following with ice fishermen, but was curious if anyone used them from their boat and saw any advantages to having one?

I have an in dash unit. I use it for depth when motoring. I still have a green box.
Oops, should have used the search first. Just found a post in February on the topic.
I still have a flasher on my TM.(but going to upgrade to HDS).I think the thing about a flasher is they don't lie.If they are showing something then there is something there. What it is I don't know until I fish it?But with today's units they not only show something is there but you know what that something is!!Plus you can get a true depth when running across the lake.:highfive

Still have the Flasher in my Boat , use it to tell depth while running works great , 1985 Ranger RR.
I have one for icefishing but I plan on mounting a hb 346 di unit on my bass hound which has the flasher option. My flasher unit has the transducer I need for the 346 so when I want to jig up some perch or crappie nothing beats the flasher. It's pretty fun to watch your jig and see the fish come to it but most of everyone here is southern so flashers look like thier from the stone ages haha
I don,t winter fish for bass anymore but a flasher had no equal at running 50 miles an hour looking for shad and throwing marker on them and go back and hopking for the bass and stripers, today's sonar will not do it at those speed
Ice Fish Vexilar FL20 Use same unit on the boat......unreal. But I also have 2 HD-8's!
