Lake Marian Fishing Report 3/1-3/2
As I previous mentioned, father and I had our annual crappie fish trip on Lake Marian (Not Marion) this past weekend. We got there on Friday and hit the water around 2ish. I heard from the locals that fishing the west bank is the best this time of year. We fished the weedline on the the west side of the lake with live minnows in about 2 feet of water. It was only us and one other boat. We finished with 14 keepers but caught around 20 fish. Woke up early Saturday to cold weather but went back to the west side of the lake fished for about an hour and caught 2 and then the wind really picked up. We stayed out and didn't catch any more fish. We decided to the end the trip early because of the weather only getting worse on Sunday.
Note that Phantom was slightly correct about fishing the north east (the cove as locals call it) but that location is only good earlier in the fall and winter. The locals basically fish that spot out and toward this time of the year there is no fish left. We tried there on Saturday afternoon and caught nothin.
If you have never fished this lake it is full of lots of small to middle size fish. The lake is long and not that wide and if the wind is coming from the east or west it can make the things very choppy. There is a public boat ramp and a small fishing camp called Lake Marian Paradise. Everyone there was extremely nice and helpful.
