I have been putting out some PVC brush lately and have marked it with my gps after dropped but I can't seem to mark it on any of my sonars. Do I need to wait for algae to grow on it before I can pick it up on sonar?

I was fishing Barkley one day and the Corps of Engineers pulled up next to us. They said they were putting out fish attractors. They were putting out the Porcupine type made of pvc. They would put 3 in one spot. I asked if they were able to see them on their locator. Their reply was "yes". We watched them dump them in the water several yards in front of us. When we got there we tried to find them and never did. I had a friend that later got a 997 si unit and he looked. After I got a 798 si I looked many times. These were put very close to the bank about mid way in a cove. We have yet to see the pvc, shadow, any fish on them, or catch any fish on them. . Can't help myself if I am close I will still try to find them. Beats me
PVC by itself will be hard to see on sonar. The material itself does not reflect a lot of sonar and its size and shape often don’t help that either. If you want to be able to see your PVC fish attractors more easily you will have to add some type or sonar reflective material to them of trap air inside of them. Of course this makes it easier for others to see them too…
I have put out the porcupine fish attractors also but I was able to see those partially. I think it was because I used copper wire and cinder block to anchor them though.

Thanks for the pics cane pole. I may have to play with my settings a little to get a better pic. At least I got the waypoints saved, I just don't always trust them. Sometimes I'll tie a heavier jig to my rod so I can feel the brush down there to confirm the saved waypoint location. I do like the coffee can idea also, might make that my next project.

This a screenshot of some PVC trees taken with a 997. I just happened to look at screen and was shocked by how good they showed up. You can see the shadows on the left side. I made these out of 3 inch riser with 3/4 inch branches.
