Tip day 6

When the temperatures drop don't sit at home but go fishing. With the water temp in the 40's I slow down my approach. The fish tend to get lethargic but they still feed. I have found when the water temps get into the 50's i can speed up my trolling.

Now with that said when you fish in the frigid temps you will encounter icy rod guides. To get rid of the ice i dip my rod in the water and give it a shake. The water temp is usually warmer than the air temp. The ice on the rod guides can cut your line and cause a lost fish.

keep them coming...when you say trolling, what are you pulling??...shiners always worked best for me in cold water, but I used a slip cork...never trolled cold water...

Watch your electronics closely cause fish will drop to the bottom on a sudden cold front. I have seen them go from less than 10' to as much as 40' with a big tempature drop. Even on a shallow lake fish a bit deeper right above the bottom.:twocents When fishing pallet stakebeds behind a cold front , bump bottom (pallet) and raise jig up less than a foot. I see them on Nimrod Lake settle to the bottom in 8' to 12' water after a cold front. Deep is relative to the lake. On Nimrod it can be 12' where Dardanelle or Ouachita it could mean 30 to 50'!
