going to buy 858C or 858DI for the TM, just not sure if I need DI already have 998SI on rear
If I go with the 858C would be able to use transducer already on my I-pilot. Could still share way points and link together
Any thoughts as I am racking my brain

DO NOT try using the US2 on the 858c DI or 858c HD DI units! nonono
Doing so could cause damage to the internal electronics of your DI unit.

Yes you can. The 858c unit will work fine on the US2 sonar.
The problem with using the US2 with a DI model unit is that it leaves the transmit/receive lines for the DI sonar unloaded and this is where the damage can happen. Also, in shallower water the unit is using the DI sonar to determine water depth; so not having the DI sonar working would not allow a DI unit to work in shallow water.
