Minn Kota Charger

I recently purchased a Minn Kota onboard charger model 330D. I am ready to install it and need to know if it makes any difference which lead I hook to which battery. I have a 12 volt battery that is a stand alone for the outboard motor and two 12 volt batteries hooked up in series for my 24 volt trolling motor. Also I need to know if I need to unplug my trolling motor whenever I charge the batteries. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about how to hook the charging leads up. I Emailed Minn Kota a couple of days ago asking these questions and have not gotten a response. Thanks

They use to recommend hooking cable #1 to the starting battery. But with todays newer technology it doesn't matter.

Just make sure all the batteries are of the same type. I'm not sure if that charger has the option to select agm or flooded.

I have Minn Kota 220D 2-bank charger on the way and planned on mounting it in the bow to offset weight (it weighs 11 lbs) and planned to slice it into my trolling motor leads which come from my deep cycle battery in back of boat and running the manufacturer extension wiring kit to my cranking battery, also in back of boat. My twist lock trolling motor plug went bad, so my TM wires are wire-nutted to the leads from deep cycle battery.

What could happen if I don't disconnect my TM when charging?

You can hook it up that way but you need to get rid of those wire nut. Get ring eyes to fit the wire ends, crimp them on then solder them. Connect them all together with proper size stainless bolt and nut. Coat with liquid electrical tape then wrap with regular elec tape. Un plug trolling motor,

I also have the 330D and love it, hook up wont matter as long as you do + to + and so on

I unhook my TM after each day on the water then get home and plug in the charger ....... 4 new blue top batteries arent cheap nor was the charger, but it was a good investment

thanks for the reply, I plan to replace and solder all the connections when I install the charger and new fish finder on the bow and your ring connector/stainless bolt/nut recommendation is definitely a good idea. but I can't see spending the money for a new plug and receptacle for this old Bill Dance motorguide rig. it has an on/off switch on the pedal that should keep battery voltage from reaching the trolling motor (as long as I don't forget and accidentally hit the microswitch, that is). if it was a newer trolling motor with electronics and circuitry I would definitely replace the plug and unplug it when I am not fishing.

why unplug tm?
