terrova question
Getting one but tough decision. Putting it on an xpress h51 17x50 with a 50 merc.presently have a mg 45 pound thrust. 12 volt. Will a terrova 55 12 volt work or do I need to go to the 80? Problem is fitting another battery under the rear deck. Money is not the problem. Space is. Never had a problem with with the 45 but never pulled cranks cranks either. Help will be appreciated.

I have an 18 foot, 72 inch wide Lowe with a 90 hp and I took the 55 terrova off of my 16 foot tillar steer. Its a little slower on top end but works fine. I didnt need that much top end anyway.

Bet the 55 will push you fine to fine pulling cranks on that boat, be sure and get the terrova Ipilot. One tip pulling is to raise your big motor out of the water and that will reduce the drag alot, if the wind is blowing you around some just lower the skeg back into the water.

I have a Terrova 55 on a 17ft Procraft glass boat with a 115 Johnson.Never had a problem running batteries down.Dont believe you will have a problem.I have run the trolling motor all day and no problems. That is running it at all speeds.

55 works fine on my 17 WarEagle but if you want to pull cranks you need the 80. Though you could go to a golf cart battery and probably get 5/6 hrs out of it.

I have an 80# Terrova and have never used the 55, so I can't speak from experience. We hear more complaints about motors underpowering than overpowering, however. If you are also considering buying a Terrova with or without iPilot, there's no question--get iPilot. If the iPilot decision hinges on placement of the extra battery, sell the boat and buy one that can get the job done!

I have a Tracker PT175 with a Merc 60 2smoke on it, full carpeting, seats, etc., and I usually fish solo. I upgraded to the Terrova 55 with IP replacing a MG 43# 5 speed. I don't pull cranks much but am set up where I can when I want to. I usually longline 99% of the time, just my preference. The Terrova 55 does fine for me even pulling cranks but I only use 2 rods when pulling cranks or longlining due to the narrow coves I fish on my home lake. I can fish all I want (4-6 hrs) per trip by either method and have never run my single trolling battery down yet. Do get the IP, its worth the money, but whether you need the 80 lb terrova should depend on your style/method of fishing. All I had to do to upgrade was remove the MG and bolt on the Terrova, install a new plug on the wire, and install a new circuit breaker (oem one was done) and I went fishing. I don't feel like an 80 was necessary for me, but it may be for you depending on your style of fishing.

I got the 80 with Ipilot hooked to a couple blue top optimas on a 17x54 war eagle and I don't have to worry about having enough power to pull the boat or having enough battery all day for at least two days. Never tried to go longer. If you think you can wedge that second battery somewhere, then I'd suggest doing it. Also an on board battery charger is nice too. Nothing against a 55 tho.

Is your outboard a four stroke? If so get the 55 IPILOT and run the outboard at idle and steer with the 55, makes a geat combo for cranking.

I have a Tracker PT 170, the 55 Ipilot works just fine pulling cranks. Never have run down the battery, and charge only after 2 - 3 days of fishing.
