Crappie will not "Feed Down"

This has been pounded in my head since I was a child !

"They will go up for it but they won't go down for it"

It sounds good and all but....

During the fall and winter we fish by casting a jig under a bobber a lot, usually in Conways deeper water "10ft".

I have found during Several occasions when I have to fish what seems Under the fish to catch them.
The bobber will not go down, actually comes up and lays on its side, sometimes swims away.

Fishing deep in this method has produced many many limits on a poor day for most.

I've heard the same about bass...
But they sure will pick a worm up off the bottom..

Never heard it about bass, but sure have about crappie.

Cork laying on its side usually means they hit it on the way down, it never got to full depth. It also means "SET THE HOOK". :) When that happens, I just shallow up the cork a tad, a little at a time, and see if they are shallower. I love shallow crappie fishing, but the dang things seem deeper than I am fishing more than they seem to be shallower. I haven't charted that, just something that 'seems that way' to me.

That's what I'm saying...
As I shallow... The bite stops. Go back deep, it's on again!

Happens quite often!

Whats funny is when they lay the floater on its side and slowly move off wlth it stopping and moving off eith it again stopping and slowly take it under.Or when they pull your floater under so slow you think your floater is waterlogged or pull it under real fast only to let it pop back
Crappie will not only come up for food they will stand on their heads to get food also....

That is a perfect indicator that u are to deep and should shallow up just a bit,IMO!!!

Was thinking on this one..........

Many times the cork lays on its side, and I think I'm too deep. So I shallow up BARELY.......and the bite stops. (Maybe I'm dense and that's what Joe is saying)....... When I go back down, the bite is on again but it lays on its side. Makes me scratch my haid.

THERE IS NOTHING SET IN CONCRETE WHEN IT COMES TO FISHING. I HAVE SEEN TIMES TO WHERE i HAD TO BUMP BOTTOM WITH MY JIG AND RAISE IT A FEW INCHES TO GET A BITE.

This is exactly what I am saying! Again...

There are many many many times, this is happening, I shallow up and the bite stops...

Go back deep and it's on again.
