lake catherine
Hey guys, I'm a LA boy but I have family that just moved to lake Catherine. Was just wondering if any of ya'll ever do much crappie fishing there. I have never fished a lake that had water temps 85 on one end and 58 on the other:confused: . That kind of blew my mind!

Hey Curly:
I don't fish Catherine much and haven't caught any crappie there. We do catch some trout and walleye at the upper end near Carpenter dam and the hybrids and stripers get up in that cool water at times.
If you decide to give Hamilton a try though I can point in the right direction.

I havent fished it in a couple of years but know a few folks who still do. They dont target crappie specificaly but do catch them trolling. They also catch walleye, bass, stripers ect. So I would give trolling a try till you learn the lake a little better. Pull some bandits and shadraps early and late and your sure to catch a few.
My dad was raised in the area and back in the 50's he caught a 4pound 2 ounce crappie in a fishing "rodeo" not far below the dam. Back then all the fish from the rodeo were cleaned and donated to the needy. He still has a picture of is somewhere. I would have been a state record up untill the late 70's I belive.
Good luck and keep us posted on your success out there on Catherine.
