Saw something the other day on tv, guy said fish slower/less aggressive on sunny days because the fish relate more closely to structure/cover. On cloudy days speed up presentation/get aggressive and cover water because the fish roam a little more. This was on a green carp show, but seems like it would apply to crappie too. Anybody noticed patterns like this? I know of one day that seemed to be the case but I have never really altered my techniques enough to tell a difference.
Fish always get close to cover in bright sun. Agressiveness, or lack of, is dependent on conditions. Brights sun usually follows a front and the fish are always sluggish. That is the time to slow down. Stable weather conditions, not neccessarily meaning lots of cloud cover, is the time to speed up. Fish are more active during stable weather, thus easier to catch.
Makes sense, is this due to a drop in barometric pressure? Or just changes in weather?
+1 on Barometric pressure. If it's dropping, they'll bite better and rising, less bites and they'll get on cover tighter. Think about the old wifes tale. Wind from the west, fishing the best. Wind from the East, Fishing the least. The wind comes form the west as storms approach and from the East when the high pressure is coming throughQuote:

true enough... Just curious if anyone trolls faster/slower on a cloudy day or vice versa. My mind tells me to slow down on cloudy days so that the fish could track it better, but I guess there is a magic speed every given day and every given weather condition/ temp combo. And if youre not at the right depth, no presentation technique will change your catch ratio. Hope to get a little more practice soon...

That's why they call it "fishing" and not"catching".
What I have found is on the days where it goes back and forth from overcast to sunny every time it would go from bright sun to the overcast they usually are more aggressive. I usually won't change speed but will go deeper when it gets bright. Feel they will go down to a comfort level.
