using a cutof switch
I have learned a lot about my HDS 7 GEN 2 from the best forum on the web. At the time I installed my unit, I did not add structure scan to my HDS 7. I am thinking about adding it now. I sold the x510 that I had and changed just the head unit of my HDS 7. I have transducers at each end e/w a toggle switch. I am thinking of adding structure scan now . Since I kept the old power cord from my previous unit. Will I now need a cut off switch in order to cut off the structure scan? If so, what do I need. Where can I get one?I know canepole knows this. By the way I liked your transducer shoe.I will be using something similar as I want to mount to the trolling motor and want to be able to scan an area. Thanks for any input or suggestions

If its just for cutting off the power to it all you need is a simple SPST toggle switch installed in the 12V line.

why do you want to have the ability to turn off just the SS module? Battery drain, don't plan on using SS except when hunting for the fish? Are you planning on not using the down scan except in search mode as well? The installation instructions give you two options on wiring up/powering the SS module and deals with the "yellow" wire IIRC.
I usually have SS or DS showing even when longlining, as I like watching the "flat screen" on my HDS 8.

jimp, Since I am using my old HST-WSBL transducer that runs under the rod storage box, it is my understanding that to cut off the power to the structure scan unit you have to have a cutoff switch. Is this true????

It really depends on how you wire both of the power wires (seperate for the HU and SS box). I have mine wired to where when I turn the HDS HU on, the SS module is powered up, and when I turn the HDS HU off, the SS module powers down. I just followed the install directions but I have a G 1 HDS 8. Could be different but wouldn't think so.
