We were setting brush piles but had some minners so we dropped a few of them in a few places without any luck. Never caught a crappie, only 2 bass. My buddy was bass fishing on the lake that same day and had spoke to 3 different crappie fisherman who said no bitty bitty for them either which made us feel a bit better. As stated before some lakes are better than others when it comes to the white perch...think we've confirmed that by now though.
I don't understand your fishing philosophy...... You keep going to lakes that are not great crappie producers and continually don't catch crap. U then come on here and tell us how bad these lakes are. I have never seen you give a decent report. The closest place I fished from home last year was 55 miles. On average I drive 200 plus miles round trip to fish. I don't like it and fish less often because of it but at least I'm putting the odds in my favor when I do go. Sometimes you have to go where the fish are...... If not, and it looks as if you are proving it on a consistent basis, then you are just wasting your time.Quote:

there was a time when DeQueen was a decent crappie lake, lakes tend to go through cycles, keep putting brush out and give it time, crappie can repopulate very quiickly
Personally, I don't like to drive due to time constraints and I am not equipped to fish some of the prime water that is only a couple hours away from here. I figure others are in the same "boat" (pun intended) as I. To me it is not about catching a bunch of big fish every trip. It is fun google earth scouting and tieing rigs when I can't go. A large part of my trips to the lake are morning trips before work dropping a piece of structure and when time permits, I'll drag out the jig pole and get in a few minutes of fishing. Everyone knows where I fish and most know that it is not worth the time or effort to work hard for some 9 inch fish and I hesitate to post those up, but it is still fun to me. I just assume that there are other people and locations across the state that are the same as here. Those that live close to good fishing holes should thank the good lord daily to be blessed in such a fashion. It is rather intimidating for those of us who struggle to see pictures from the good fishermen, but you can bet your boots that I am proud for you and what you caught not to mention just a bit envious. Hopefully one of these days, money, time, and fishing skills will all happen simultaneously and when it does, you will all know about it. For all that have taken the time to read this, keep on fishing and having fun. Be respectful of others and if things get tough, don't be afraid to ask the Good Lord for some help. After all from what I read, He does have a soft spot in his heart for fisherman calling them to be His disciples then giving them fishing tips telling them to cast the net on the other side of the boat.

The lake nearest me, Norfork (41 miles one way) is not an easy lake to fish. Very clear, very deep and no structure. I just went to a fish habitat meeting at the COE for Norfork. I will post their RULES in a seperate thread, I left the meeting very unhappy. There are some locals who have been fishing the lake for a very long time and they do fair on crappie but it is not much of a crappie lake to say the least. Now if you want stripers it is the place to go!!!!
More rules than anyone can enforce in this country. Time for night manuvers.:biggrin
Thanks guys for the vote of confidence. I know dad won't travel far to fish and there r a few crappie t be had on lakes like Dequeen just not all the time. Spring and summer seem to be best. Now why u can't catch em this time of year I don't know cause they'll bite in cold water quite well once you can get around them. I was just glad to see the G&F placed crappie in dequeen this year. If they do that least us fisherman can do is make habitats for them
