HB 597ci Help Please
I got a 597 on the front of my boat that is losing its gps signal and then will not shut down with power button? I called Humminbird and its over its year warranty and they want $160 to fix it? I know its a long shot but anybody got any ideas whats causing this? One thing I thought of is my Hitek Holders are directly above my unit and then you add rods...reckon that could be reason for losing signal? But still seems like it should shut down with power button? I am not good with electronics but thought I would ask on here before paying the $160 :dono

Not only your rod holders are possibly blocking the signal...your body makes a very big block from satellites on the horizon behind you....
Goto the GPS diagnostic screen and see if the satellites behind you are "black" , "gray" , or "white"...
(Explain more about your power button issue....will the unit not power off with a 3 second button hold..??)...

You are right: if the GPS is blocked it should still shut down.
I would try testing your unit on someone else’s boat that is running a Humminbird unit. It does not have to be another 597ci unit. This can be tested on land as all you are looking for is the GPS to work (or not) and for the unit to shut down correctly. Make sure that the other boat is out in the open so that the GPS Receiver can get the signal from the GPS satellites.
If the GPS works on the other boat you will need to either relocate your unit or the rod holders.
If the unit shuts down correctly on the other boat, you will need to check your wiring. All connections should be soldered and sealed. Check for any loose or corroded connections – even in the fuse holder and the fuse. Ideally you have the 598’s power cable connected to a set of wires that runs directly back to the cranking battery of the boat (through a blade-type fuse and fuse holder). Low power can cause some funny things to happen, like the GPS not working and the unit not shutting down properly among other things.

To explain the power button problem......while fishing the speed will start blinking and then when trying to push and hold power button it will not display the countdown or anything? I can cut it on at first and it will shut down but seems after unit is on a while it will not shut down? I have to remove unit from its base to cut off! I just changed batteries out and put new one in and it didn't change anything? I have checked all connections and done everything electrical. I dont know anyone that has one but will see if i can take it off boat and raise it up somehow for a trip and see what happens? I sure hope I can get this fixed ....its time to longline!

my 788ci does that some times, won't power down. i've tried it on 2 different boats, and 3 mounts. its just freezes the screen and i have to pull it off the mount and put it back on. my 798 freezes in si/di when i mark a spot and go to zoom in. gotta take it off the mount to get it to work again. i havn't tried it on another boat yet.

I would suggest to remove the individual cables from the base collector and plug them directly into the unit and then test this power button issue...
Also ...does this power button issue happen when the unit is hooked to AC power with an adapter...(like a setup for viewing the unit in the house)...
