I haven't seen many posts about this particular size HB DI...
The DI and 2D sonar should be the same as in the other DI units from HB with the only difference being the size of the screen.
So here is some reading from a different screen size HB DI unit that may help you in your decision...

Thanks Ricky the more and more I look at the 597 the more I want it lol might have to tell the wife I found one on sale some where lol
Large screen envy is definitely a user affliction with these units...
Ask plenty of questions...someone here will help.....
I'll have to see if I can dig up the post of someone putting a 10.5 inch screen on a yak....it was awesome looking...:yikes
Anyone remember who posted this...??

I got Humminbird 385 ci DI two weeks ago ( the same 386). I like it, it is better than my 570 DI. The best is that it is light, low energy consumption, keeps sonar records on SD card and has an exelent GPS.
Here are some screenshots of "UFO plate" 20 feet diameter, 30 feet deep, I took it in ice hole deeping transducer with cable for 15 feet under ice:

Vic.. Please explain a little about your technique for using the HB unit so that new users will understand that the images you obtain from "sector scanning" is quite different (yet interesting) from normal "forward movement scanning"...
I really like your technique ...:)

Wow I didn't think the pics would be as clean As the 597 but that looks just as clean and the 597 pics I've seen and it will be easier on the wallet thanks Vic u gave me exactly what I was looking for
Transducer rotates around horizontal axis ( not vertical) via worm reducer ( taken from old gitar). It is doing only half of revolution from -90 till +90 degree back and forth (like pendulum or swing), and the transducer is inclined aside for 30-45 degrees - it sees only one side :

This was my first hand made mechanical drive, than I used hand made electrical drive, now I am using hand made spring drive - it is very simple and quick for repetition, and can take pictures deep under ice (not only from ice). I hope Humminbird will factory manufacture similar reliable drives.
Went withy the 386ci Di from shut up and fish he gave me a great price thanks again Dave!! Will be here before next Friday I hope
