Hummingird 598ci HD Si
Just purchased new unit and trying to figure out where to mount transducer. I have older fiberglass boat with stepped hull and also have jack plate. I had a 597ci HD di already on boat mounted on the outside transom and had alot of clutter and no accurate reading when runnig at higher rate of speed. Still clutter when idling. Wondering if where I had transducer mounted attributed to that but now question where do I put Side imaging transducer now. On bottom step where drains are or on jack plate. Moving my old one to my trolling motor. Any help and suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks fellas and happy fishing

Without pictures of your boat’s transom to look at I can only offer some general advice:
Mount the CSi transducer of the 598ci HD Si unit on the bottom step where the drains are. This sounds like it will be the best location for a chance to get high-speed depth readings, though I won’t know how well it will work for that in this location or if there is anything that may block some of the Si sonar beams.
As an option to this, and what many other Si unit owners do: mount the CSi transducer where it will work best for the Si sonar (clear to the left and right of the transducer so nothing blocks the Si sonar beams) and where it is more protected from trees and rocks (possibly off the jackplate). Then install an AS-Si-DB-Y cable and an XP-9-20 inside-the-hull DualBeam transducer in the bilge area of your boat for the best chance of getting a depth reading at high-speeds.
