Will this get rid of the donut?.....Will it keep moving and show your heading at slow speeds?I saw where rickie said it would show heading, but not move if i read it correct. Are they out yet and anyonr have one?

The new AS GPS HS antenna will, indeed get rid of the "Donut"....with limitations....
The 1st thing to understand with this antenna is that "Heading" and "Course" are different....
"Heading" means which way the antenna is "pointed"...
"Course" means which way the antenna is "moving" ...
The AS GPS HS antenna casing has a mark on 1 edge indicating to mount the mark toward the front of the boat....
This gives the unit knowledge of which way (on the Earth's surface) the boat is "pointing" at all times....even stationary....
When the boat movement slows to below 0.6mph... the "boat shaped" icon will stop on the screen (just like the "donut" did....)
At this point, if the boat moves enough on the Earth's surface that the GPS recognizes a different lat & long coordinate...the "boat shaped" icon will "jump" to the new lat & lon on the screen...(this may be as little as 1-5 ft on the water depending on the accuracy of the GPS at the time)...
The "boat shaped" icon on the screen will continue to "point" in the direction the bow of the boat is "pointing"....Even if the "newly recognized lat & lon coordinate is in a different direction than the boat is "pointed"....
So...in effect ...the "boat shaped" icon could be "pointing" N while the icon is actually moving S on the screen...(boat drifting backwards on the water in this case)..
Clear as mud...??

Rickie, so the only difference is that the icon will show the direction the boat is going even though it doesn't know where it's at? I don't see any help to slow trollers.
Your analogy is correct but I'll change 1 of your words to not confuse anyone...
so the only difference is that the icon will show the direction the boat is "pointing" even though it doesn't know where it's at?
It is yet to be determined if it will benefit slow trollers...I'll be getting 1 just to see for myself...

Slow trollers (like myself) need to understand that this antenna was not developed to appease slow trollers...
It is a necessary component of the new 360 imaging....and that is the antenna's sole purpose of engineering design...
It just "so happens" to eliminate the "Donut"...and "Donut" haters are trying to figure out if it will actually fix the problem the "Donut" creates for slow trollers..
Rickie
Magnetic compass.
I believe it DOES know where it is within accuracy of the GPS. It MAY not update movment while the boat drifts those 1-5 feet though. The boat direction icon will always know where the bow of the boat is pointing.
If you are using the charts and slowly moving towards a target, I believe this will benefit a slow troller as the screen will not bounce around when in Heading Up mode. I currently have to keep my bow unit charts on North Up when slow trolling and sometimes confuse myself on whether I'm moving towards a waypoint or not. With this puck, I will at least know that the nose of the boat is pointed at the target.
I plan to get one as soon as Rickie gets his and says its worth the money.
x3...................lol..............go rickie
Im i correct, that the difference between what this will do and what the lowrance does is that the humminbird will acually no witch way the boat is pionted, while the lowrance unit just kindof has a palse in the displayed reading giving the false inpression of accuacy?
