12/28: All good things come to an end

No.....not the year 2012. In general, it sukd.

My string of good trips to Beaverdam ended yesterday. The day was pretty enough and the WT was 46 - 47. The wind changed directions throughout the day and ranged from this

up to "annoying."

Much of the grass is gone from the lower end of the lake, but the specks were still hiding somewhere. The YP feeding frenzy I enjoyed during the past 4 trips was over and even the greenies weren't biting. For the day, I totaled 0.5 crappie

plus about a dozen non-specks.

Good to hear from you..Last spring and one before that, I tore them up on the left of your pic- just outside the stumps. Picked up a few at mouth of creek to left. I have not explored the area your in much, but never caught anything there ,not even a pickeral!! and the place is loaded with them. I have also done well just to the left of that little island that would be in front of your boat (in first pic).

It will be interesting to see where they relocate after the grass is all gone for the season. Next year, the grass shouldn't be quite as heavy due to the stocking of grass carp. Also, I saw a few swans yesterday. A park staff member said the feds had removed some (all?) of the swans a couple of years ago in order to protect the lake's grass beds. Apparently, swans pull grass out of the bottom while feeding, so I'm glad they're coming back! Yesterday I went up to the split & found grass everywhere.

There's some 30 fow areas near your pic, Panman told me to search these areas during winter and hot part of summer. -but he used much different equipment.

richard you should not give up on one bad trip. the fish may have been turned off on that day. you will find them next time

No, I never give up on a lake until the water's drained out! The 4 good trips depended on an aggressive YP bite which was probably dependent on the WT and condition of the grass beds. All of that has changed, so now it's time to switch to a different game plan. The lake holds quality fish & is worth an occasional trip for that reason alone.

I landed 2 over 15 this yr at BDR, and really didn't fish it as much as I normally would!
