Normandy Lake, 12/28

The son in law and I went to Normandy this morning for his first dedicated Crappie trip. Got there just after the sun, and temps never rose, a steady 34*. Wind was none to about 5-7mph, water temp just below 50, and boat traffic low. Found fish while I was getting Rocky rigged out and my rods weren't even out yet.:crazy: We were busy with a few slow spots, but when we spoke of moving we picked up another. Caught a few throwbacks and a spotted Bass about 2lb. Bobby Garland got the job done, no minnows today. The wind turned from NW to S, the sleet arrived and turned to rain/sleet mix and the fish decided they didn't like it and quit biting, all but the throwbacks. We finished the morning with 8 fish, 4 real good ones and 4 that were just keepers. They await the knife as I speak. Cold to the bone and ready for some hot food, Rocky called the Daughter and she met us at the local awful house. While we were there we met Miss Jackie. Every day of 70 and sweeter than a Georgia peach. She lives around the corner and has breakfast there most every day. When the waitresses would get covered up she would gather dishes and wipe a table and just help out in general.Being as it was raining and cold out, I asked if she needed a ride home, and she accepted. Found out she was originally from Minnesota and her husband had passed in '99. As we got ready to go I asked if she wanted some of our catch, and a large smile covered her face. She said her son always kept her in Walleye when she lived closer and would enjoy "just a few". Gave her 3 of the 11 1/2" that we had and Jessie dropped her off at her house. Our day of fishing ended at 9:30, and breakfast about 11. Altogether it was a good morning. Been nicer with a few more degrees on the thermometer, but I'll take what I can get for the last days of the year. Rocky enjoyed his first and we look forward to a few more before he goes off to points unknown. I'll keep you posted on those trips as they happen. It's great to start someone from scratch, lots of firsts today. This old man had a great time. Sorry, no pics, but lots of memories today.

nice story tim,i'm sure your son-in-law will always remember that day.did he get hooked?or do you guys need another outing?don't you just love bringing a smile to the face of one from the common sense generation?
