New to Brunswick, MD...In need of some good crappie spots and a fishing bud

Im hoping this would be an ok place to post this. My family and I recently moved to Brunswick and Im looking for some people to go crappie fishing with. I usually go kayak fishing by myself but have yet to find any good crappie spots (I've mostly fished smallmouths and trout since arriving in MD.)

Ever since I was stationed at Ft. Hood I have been addicted to crappie and would really like to get out on a good body of water that holds quality fish.

Anyone else in the area interested in going soon? I will probably be going to Piney Run to try it out tomorrow a.m.

I saw in your other post you were in Mattowomen cr. I used to catch alot of crappie there years ago up from slavins dock. We fished bends blowdowns there was a beaver hut that held em too.Piney run can be good Rocky Gorge used to have alot of white crappie.I would say any of the creeks off the potomac would hold em. They get em rite in DC too.Ft Hood is in texas right ,I bet you had some big ones there,thats Wally Marshall country lol. Good luck have a good Christmas

Thanks man, hope you had a good xmas as well. Yeah, there were some huuuuuge slabs in belton lake near ft hood, tx. 17-18" crappir were fairly regular out there.

Piney Run trip got postponed but I intend on going out there on the 28th if it isnt dumping snow. Any good areas there specifically that I should focus on?

I havent been in there in so long I wouldnt know what to tell you for this time of year.The upper ends of the tidal creeks off the chesapeake and potomac are good bets in winter .We have more reliable action in the tidal water in winter.Piney run has some deeper areas that you should be able to find some schooled up in though,are you allowed to boat or kayak in there in winter I thought they used to have only shore line fishing in winter?

Most all the creeks from the Wison Bridge south will hold good populations of crappie this time of year. Just pick a spot.

To be honest im not sure if kayaks are allowed during winter. I will be sure to research that prior to going of course

Off topic just a bit but you may want to check: Maryland Kayak Fishing (or google Maryland kayak fisherman)

It is a group of dedicated Kayak fisherman. There are over 1000 registered and over 250 are regular contributors. You are guaranteed to find a fishing buddy in your area.

Thanks Russ...if you are refering to snaggedline, then yeah I have checked that out as well. Looking forward to the tourney when it comes around again in September.
